The luxury cruise ship-set series from the scribe behind Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Monster' stars Ryo Yoshizawa and Aoi Miyazaki.
The first full trailer for Netflix drama In Love and Deep Water dropped on Thursday and in the clip we see more of the mix of romance and mystery cooked up by famed Japanese writer Yuji Sakamoto.
The series stars Ryo Yoshizawa as Suguru, a devoted butler, who encounters Aoi Miyazaki’s Chizuru, a woman who claims that their respective partners are on the verge of cheating. The action takes place on a luxurious cruise ship and things start going off kilter when a dead body is found floating in the rooftop pool. Suguru and Chizuru are drawn to each other as the mystery surrounding the dead body deepens.
Rounding out the cast is Yoh Yoshida, Rinko Kikuchi, Kento Nagayama, Yuki Izumisawa, Aju Makita, Amane Okayama, Airi Matsui, Yoshimasa Kondo, Tomu Miyazaki, Takashi Okabe, Yunho, Nahana, Rumika Ogai, Mashima Hidekazu, Miyu Hayashida, Ken Mitsuishi, Hatsunori Hasegawa, Saki Takaoka and Ken Yasuda.
In June, Netflix revealed that Sakamoto had inked a five-year partnership to develop a range of titles exclusively for the streamer, and In Love and Deep Water is the first such project from the deal. Among Japan’s most prominent screenwriters, Sakamoto’s credits include the television shows Our Textbook, Still, Life Goes On, Matrimonial Chaos, Mother and Woman. He also wrote the script for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s 2023 film Monster, which won him the best screenplay prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
In Love and Deep Water debuts on Netflix on Nov. 16.
