Plot[edit]
24-year-old Zara is tired of being underappreciated as the personal assistant to self-absorbed Hollywood star Chris Cole.
A short time after Zara quits, Chris arrives at her house to offer her an assistant producer position but only finds Brooke, her mother who writes stories, as Zara runs errands. As he decides to wait for her, he explains to Brooke that his script is bad, and they soon hit it off. By the time Zara returns, she unknowingly walks in on Brooke and Chris having sex.
Chris promises Zara it won't happen again, but Chris invites Brooke to dinner. Before they realize it, Zara's boss is having a secret romantic relationship with her widowed mother.
Meanwhile at the film studio Zara is agitated with Chris. Zara learns Chris got a new writer who she later finds out is Brooke and later confronts them seeing them together, the mom says she's happy with Chris and hasn't been this happy since she was with her husband, disregarding her daughter's pain and her concern he will hurt Brooke.
The family goes to Granny’s house for Christmas. Granny convinces Zara to let her mom have fun. Chris is there for Christmas and Zara's okay with it. Brooke tells her mother-in-law that she was having relationship problems with Zara's dad even before he died, and Zara overhears this conversation. Later, while puting bags in the car, Zara notices diamond earrings in Chris's bag.
At home, Zara tells both of them how bad Chris is, saying that when he breaks up with people he gets them the same earrings, and he already has them now. Brooke gets Chris to leave.
At the movie studio Zara is told to get Chris, who is upset and alone. He doesn't believe he should play the good guy, and then explains he wasn't going to break up with Brooke, but that he just forgot he left the earrings in his bag, as he often ends relationships on instinct. Zara tells Brooke she was wrong about Chris, but she doesn't listen.
Zara and Chris go to the supermarkets to get something, and Brooke goes to the same supermarket at the same time. Zara had set this up, and she explains to the both of them that she was wrong and says sorry. The two get back together and a year later it's still going well.
